- If you listen to the news at all, you have heard about Metallica's record company, as well as other record companies who are sueing Napster.com. If you are completely under a rock, Napster is an online data base of music which you can download and listen to countless times and even burn copies of your favorite band's new album absolutely free. Do you think it is completely uncool for bands to sue this website? Or is this free music not fair? Where can you draw the line?
- I personally think that this is about the most concieted and selfish thing I have seen a band ever do, and Napster should keep running. What do you think?

that's so irritating. i mean, metallica, dre, and eminem are already making mucho money. it's not like they NEED to take away the free music. *sniff* there was a time before they big people and they would care for ANYONE to listen to their music and look what happens.what freaks. i don't believe in burning music and selling them though. that's baaaaaaad. first off, as far as i know, eminem's not suing napster. just metallica and dr dre.anyway. i am so on napster's side, that i wish i were temporarily a lawyer so i could defend napster. anyway. it's 930am, and i have about 49754985 thoughts on this, so if it sounds garbles, i apologize. *A* who's to say that napster won't encourage people to buy new cds? i downloaded a few songs, and i ended up loving the artist a lot that i went out and bought a cd. *b* i'm not allowed to download songs from napster, and save myself like, $15 on a cd, but i'm allowed to shell out outrageous amounts of cash for concert tickets.. t-shirts.. other band memorabilia. *c* why can't i download a song off of napster, yet i can tape it off the radio? *D* this is another sign of how frickin controlling the world's turning out to be. why can't i trade music? i mean, i can guarantee the recording industry hasn't been dealt a huge blow because napster exists. there are still enough people out there that will go buy the cds and such that it wont hurt musicians' money making... ok. i'm done for now. ooh, and i think it was eva, who said she couldn't get on napster.. download the new beta napster.. version 6. i had yr same problem, and i downloaded the new one, and it works lovely. ------------------ *sarah* loves you! wanna make me happy? :D

I am on the record companies side, only for the fact people do abuse Napster's free service, by downloading the whole album, and the artist doesn't get paid the money. The artist works hard and long to write, record, and produce their CDs, and people shouldn't be downloading the songs for free. ------------------ Contact Me : joe@j0e.us Check Out My Auctions Invincible's User Page My Ebay Auctions

but if they're writing + performing because they love it ( like you should be, otherwise it's pointless ), the money shouldn't matter. especially when you're making plenty otherwise.IP: Logged |

I support Napster, but there are abuses of the system... for instance, those who do upload and download entire CD's and then proceed to burn and sell them. I've downloaded select songs from Napster just to get a feel for an album, and then I've turned around and purchased the album at a record store if I like it.But for those artists who are new and have just one hit single, Napster hurts because everyone just goes to Napster to get that one song, rather purchasing the album or just the radio single. I'm sure that many artists would be happy to not do it for the money and to just worry about the songs, but they need the money to stay afloat, and for the record companies to keep their contracts. Metallica is just calling attention to the problem - they're a well-established, talented band. People will stop and listen to Metallica's protests as opposed to those of some one-hit wonder. ------------------ what a girl wants, what a girl needs: cornices and moguls! ris@ebay - http://members.ebay.com/aboutme/spootster/ ris@laundro - https://laundromatic.j0e.us/cgi-bin/laundro.cgi?justdisp&Ris IP: Logged |

the only thing I find really funny abot Napster and MP3 and stuff like that is it's the big bands that are already well known and making money thata re getting upset about it. I have friends in small garage bands and the love MP3s and Napster because it allows them to reach a bigger audience. The only suggestion I can think of would be to turn Napster into a ember only type thing and charge a monthly or yearly membership fee, then pay the artists who songs are used . If a band's song is used alot they could get a bigger cut of the money. Napster must make ALOT of $$$$ from advertising and stuff.IP: Logged |

me again....I just wanted to point out to a few people that to record an album cost ALOT OF MONEY!!!!It's incredibly expensive. Just because these people are fmaous doesn't mean they don't have to pay for equipment, recoding time etc.IP: Logged |

Okay i am totally on Napsters side, anyway want to know the inside scoop on what I hear? Here's the dael:Apperantly the owner of Napster had like millions of dollars cash. He decided to pay Warner Bros. records about 1 million dollars if they stopped their suing and became partners with Napster. They agreed so now...apperantly it isn't going to be illigal or whatever to downlaod their songs. i like napster. it encourages me to buy cds, because like someone previously said: you hear a few songs you like, then buy the cd. and get this, phish was the highest grossing band a year or two ago and they let people tape their concerts and trade tapes and stuff....is that even relavent? haha ;p------------------ VALERIE blink...and you miss a beat

my friend has napster (my dad wont let me use it ) and I really like it! im on napsters side. Sometimes there is just one song by and artist I like, like eniem. It would save me a lot of money to just download that one song, rather than buying the whole CD, and later selling it for $3 on laundro, cuz the cd sucks! Also, lots of people can't afford to pay $18.99 for every CD that has a song on it that they like. I know I can't! Don't the people in the music industry (esp. metallica and dr. dre) have enough money already? Making music shouldn't be about the money anyways. ------------------ i am not daft, i am insane. [This message has been edited by sour girl (edited 06-13-2000).] IP: Logged |

i'm for napster. metallica are old, balding selfish hogs. the only reason they are suing is cause they suck...no,they just want as much money as they can get,and if they feel they will loose a penny, then they will take action. i could see why eminem would want to press some type of charge. some fan got a hold of the unfinished verion of The Real Slim Shady before the record was even scheduled to come out. A radio station got ahold of the song, and started playing it,the kids liked it,therefore Em had to rush and get his album out - without having enough time to polish it up. i dunno if i'm the only one, but i haven't bought a cd (well...maybe just some blank cds ) in at least 5+ months. my thoughts:limp bizkit = godly for taking a stand against the norm. metallica = money grubbing old assholes who make filler albums and can't get money any other way than suing their fans. ------------------ for entertainment purposes only. laundromatic.j0e.us/cgi-bin/laundro.cgi?justdisp&Candyacid --> laundro page joe@j0e.us --> contact me IP: Logged |

napster all the way. im downloading a song right now, there..nine inch nails! starfuckers, inc...and i love it..i love the product...napster does it for the people. and i do agree with artists in a way..cd burning, etc..but i haven't met enough people who do it, to take it seriously. and also..if i download the whole cd on the computer, which i dont..but if i did..it would suck. because i love listening to music in my car..or in my room. parties. not just sitting my ass on the computer...and cd burners are quite a bit of money, and most of us cant afford it. so im with napster.------------------ also known as reis.

I wasn't into Napster until recently. Infact, I just downloaded it 2 days ago and I love it. It's great because I can find a TON of stuff that's now out of print and not available around here. Most of the music I've downloaded I already own on CD....just don't want to have to mess with CD's when I wanna listen to one on the 'puter. I used to love Metallica. But after all of this shit with Napster, I will never buy nor listen to another Metallica CD again. They make me sick. Metallica used to be about the music (and other 'perks' of the industry), now they're just about the $$. If Metallica had stuck to their original style of music instead of the shit they've put out recently, they wouldn't have to worry about the $$ issue....They're suing because THEY messed up...THEY screwed themselves...and now THEY want and need someone to pay for their dumbass mistakes... ------------------ ::+ She once believed in every story he had to tell. I'd just like to pint out one thing...the songs ARE copy-righted abd although I DON'T think the musicans sueing Napster need any more money, it's more about the fact that Napster is taking something that belongs to them WITHOUT their permition and giving it away. I think both parties should try to work out an agreement that allows bands to get some of their rights respected.Plus I think we should force music stores to lower prices and make music afordable to everyone, not just those with excessive amounts of disposable income. ~Laura ~ 2% PROTEST & 98% FUNKY STUFF ~ ~Burn Stockwell Day!~ IP: Logged |
