i really want to know.. why are brand names so important to these people???
I mean crap, I look in the want ads and its all "bath and body works" or, "gap" or, "abercrombie & fitch" ... WHY???? shit from target looks the same but the tag INSIDE the shirt is different, or the LIPGLOSS from bath and body works has the EXACT same ingrediants as the cheap stuff from WALGREENS ... WHY do you buy into this capitalist shit??? You're VOLUNTEERING to pay 3 to 10X more for the SAME things!

well, i honeslty don't know. It's just really because most people like the Abercrombie Style, some people like some scent from bath and body works, and i doubt they have the same excact scent, at target or something. I admit it, i dig brands.

i don't see why some people think they're so important either. there's really no point in paying like $70 for a pair of designer jeans, when you can get the same ones (just minus the tiny little name label) for like $25 at some little unknown store.

it doesn't make much sense to me either.

Personally I think making your own clothes is even better (fi you can sew)...that way you get the fit and design you want. My favorite piece of clothing is these wild pants that I made with my mom...there's swirls of blue all over them, along with suns, moons, and stars. I would never have been able to find something like that in a store, and they fit like I like them, too.

I'm sure this is gonna sound lame...but oh well..I just got up and I'm sure I don't make any sense right now...

Miss- I buy CK jeans because they're the only ones I can find that fit the way that I like them to fit. If I could find jeans in any other brand...any brand at all...that fit like the CK jeans do, I wouldn't spend the 65$ a pair for them. But, until I can find a pair of non-brand-name jeans that fit like the CK jeans do, I'm stuck dishing out the ridiculous amount of $$ stores want for the jeans....

Also, most of my shirts are Old Navy. Not because it's "brand name," I could care less, but because I find shirts there that actually fit REAL PEOPLE compared to other stores who seem to cater to the -5 size people in this world....

Make any sense at all?

You see, the thing is, they're NOT important no matter what one's argument is. It's the people who make them important in their heads and buy into the capitalistic bull shit that so plagues our society today. Sigh... I'll stick to making my own clothes rather than shelling out my hard earned money to those facist a-holes at Abercrombie, thank you very much.

well I think it's because that like target clothes are cheap and the'll rip or the lipgloss will fall apart. With name brands they don't do that until they're really really old unless you do something harmful to the, like pull po them or something like that. I would make my own pants, but I can't sew. If I do everything will end up in pieces. So those are some of my reasons.

my reasons are the same as adrienne's. especially with old navy...I love their clothes, because they're soo comfy and they're not all that expensive.

and I shop at bath and body works because I like to. not because it's the cool thing to do...I just like it. I also shop at walmart, but I don't reallly like some of the sprays and stuff they have there, although bonne bell lipgloss is my absolute fav.

i love target and all those places! i found a shirt that was at wet seal for $17 at marshalls for $7.99!

I basically buy all my makeup at Longs Drugs, unless im feeling the need to splurge...which I usually dont cuz i dont have enough money to! its the same quality (try telling that to my friend!), just cheaper!

well, with my experiences and clothes from target, they usually last a day to a week before ripping and i have to take them back. but i do buy most of my other beauty products and stuff there.

and also brands like gap and old navy fit me perfectly and they make me look slimmer so i continuously buy stuff from there.

and if you can get it for cheaper than target clothes online, why not?

not to be rude, but: i don't think so. usually it's the other way around or they last about the same amount of time. no matter what company makes it, they still use the same things + the same amount of time + effort when making stuff. the only difference is that one company feels they should charge more because the think that the more expensive something is, the higher the quality will seem. and if you think about this a little more, why would expensive clothing made by people working + making them under terrible working conditions in sweatshops + whatnot be of more quality than ones made in some factory here? i really don't think that if you were forced to work making clothing in a crowded room with hundreds of other people in extreme conditions that you'd be able to work your best + produce a top-quality piece of clothes for someone else.

Yeah, , another reason I shop at Old Navy..Because they're fairly inexpensive compared to some of the department stores around here. I can go into Old Navy, spend 100$ (or 50$ for that matter) and come out with 4 times the stuff I would shopping in a larger department store...

ya know, to a lot of people the name isnt important at all. I like the clothes in A+F because of the rugged look, but I don't buy clothes because of the price.. but if I was given a gift certificate or something I would use it. I get a lot of my clothes from AE and Gap and Old Navy because I like cargo pants and they are comfy. its not the brand at all. if I could get the quality clothes at target (we dont have one anyway) i would.
soooo not everyone is really concerned with the NAME. i actually look for the clothes that if they have a label at all the label is small and somewhere barely noticable.

well,i know what you mean alot, but at the same time, its not completly true, all lipglosses arent the same, some make our lips all dry and crap, and thats the way it is with alot of makeup products,
with the clothes thing,i have my limit, and i buy most stuff on sale,or on auctions, but i like dawls, roxy, etc, and the reason i buy them is cause i like them,i dont just buy anything cause it has a label, and i buy alot of no-brands too,but alot of clotheing places make clothes that pweople like, and its their style, and yeah maybe K-mart will make a cheap knock-off version, but it wont look the same....

i dont know..i kind of agree with the theory, that targets clothes aren't that well qaulity compared to name brands. everything i buy from there fades fast..or shrinks alot..or something wrong. and sometimes they just dont have that wide of a range of variety of things i like..there are so many other stores. plus..i get everything on sale, im a sale shopper. i buy ralph lauren clothes at the mall for 10 bucks a shirt. why pay that much for one at target, when you already trust a designer? also some of the shirts are 12.99 at target, ive even seen a 3/4 dress shirts 19.99! and i wouldnt pay that much. but anyways another lame opinion of mine.

I admit, I am a name brand freak.Abercrombie, Guess, Limited, GAP, CK, Polo, etc. I love the style of their clothes, and their clothes fit MY personalty. I also buy the clothes because I can afford it, and I don't trust stores like KMart, or Walmart. I never bought any thing from there, and their clothes just seem cheap, and I won't take that chance. I have a pair of ABercrombie jeans that I've had for 3 years, and I wear them every other week, and they still look brand new. And why should people care what other people spend their money on?

well, see,,, hmm. i can understand makeup, because i have extremely sensitive skin and i use chanel makeup because its the only thing i've found that doesn't irritate my skin- cheap stuff tends to have short cut ingrediants in it, cheaper stuff, whatever.. and.. it irritates my skin.. so i'm not ripping on that, but i am ripping on the people who WONT wear non brand name clothes no matter what.. and the people on here who pay 25$ for a USED abercrombie and fitch shirt, and the label is inside?!?
not to mention, why do you want to PAY THE COMPANIES TO ADVERTISE FOR THEM????
WHY!?
goddd..

i can understand having a wierd body type or clothes being cut wrong and finding that those are the only ones that fit you, but i guarentee that all of you that say, "oh, they're the only ones that fit me" (that you've found) have either A. not looked too damn hard or B. are lying because it is extremely unlikely that you all have the same body type that just happens to only fit brand name clothes..
as for target, if you're careful at those sort of places .. the clothes don't fall apart.. theres also stuff like botiques and things that you'll have locally (most of you anyways) hippy shops, etc, that have cute jean shorts, tank tops, whatever for summer and its alot less expensive than the crap at gap, limited, old navy, abercombie, banana republic, etc..
although let me say, for the record, that i understand if you have a dress code. i had a dress code at school for years and the clothes that if ound that were at the fringe of the dress code, the very most riske of the accepted clothes, were at places like those.. and I really do like most of banana republic's clothes, and i used to have nearly everything from the limited for about a year's styles.. but i don't understand why you'd want to advertise for a company, and pay THEM to do it instead of them paying you.. Companies should PAY YOU to wear a shirt that proclaims their name accross the front, they should at least give you their clothing free that has such things plastered all over it..

I never have problems with my clothes from places like target/wal-mart falling apart. My favorite pair of jeans is from wal-mart and I've had them almost a year...they're so comfy, and they fit well, too. It's hard for me to find pants that fit because I'm really tall and have big hips, so these jeans make me happy.

Oh, and I have a pair of jean shorts from wal-mart that I've had for over three years now and the only problem with them is that I'm outgrowing them.

because people either...

*a* truthfully like the clothing/cosmetics/ect.. i know someone that's been wearing abercrombie since 6th grade.. and we just graduated...

*b* like strawberry [i think...], some people just want to be accepted. it's all about status. i'll guaranteen that 95% of the people on this board are at that acceptance level in skool. i mean, that it's all about being accepted. you need friends, you need to be accepted. wearing these clothes might guarantee friends. why you would want friends based on the clothes you wear... that's a different topic...

*c* who really fucking cares. to each his own. my friends, raver kids, had a *cow* when i bought an orange abercrombie visor. i told them, you find me an orange adidas visor, and i'll buy that.. it was orange. i like orange. i'm a color whore i guess

that's my cheap, $.02.

I'd like to say that I am *PROUD* to shop at target. We used to not have much money and my mom MADE all my clothes. Then we worked up to target I think clothes from target are just as beautiful as something from somewhere else. I do admit that I shop at styles and occasionally shop at wet seal (just shirts) but I think that shopping at target or mervyns or places like those are just as (maybe even better) good as buying from delias or whatever. Most of my friends buy brand names and expensive stuff. and then wonder why they have no money. Im a very *CHEAP* person. I absolutely love shopping online (eBay buying stuff cheap), target, mervyns, even goodwill!! I mean come on if the clothes look nice and u like them...who cares who made them!! I've had so many compliments on my outfits and i shop at 5 dollar stores and stuff. **sorry for rambling**

i shop at target all of the time... it's my favorite store! The other day... i got super cute pants for $4! and they're GReAT quality! I can always find a shirt or two there for 2 bucks or under! and they look just like the stuff from abercrombie and gap and express. I personally would scream if I had to pay $70 at abercrombie for frickin pair of pants.

yeah.

bleh.
but.. i mean as for the abercombie since 6th grade.. i found that shop when i was a wee 5th grader in the mall roaming around and i found a really awesome short army skirt that i LOVE and some really nice soft ribbed stuff, good, very soft cotton shirts and stuff.. but i never ever was into plastering names of shit on myself and paying to advertise for them.. i think abercombie does have unique clothes, but i think its ridiculous to go around suggesting that you'd only wear clothes if they've got the brand name on them..

its like.. its not even about having the money or not.. with girls i think its kind of like guys and unit size: what brand of clothes you have..

because.. i mean i buy alot of my shit from small distro catalogs and that sort of thing, along with target, walmart, etc.. and i've got pleanty of money to buy the expensive brand name shit if i want
but i just don't see the point.

i buy clothes from places like abercrombie and fitch, all the way "down" to goodwill. i never wear anything w/ a logo on it because like click said...why pay to advertise for the company. i dont get it and i think its tacky. i am willing to pay a lot of money on a nice pair of abercrombie jeans or sweater if i really am in love with it...i dont usually buy clothes unless i am in love with the item...so basically i buy what i like and i dont care about the brand name or what store it came from. it really doesnt matter because its just clothes. I'd just like to make a tiny point here-all of you who say that designer clothes are better quality are living in a dream world. Most deisnger clothing is made in Tiwan, China, Japan etc. Most of these companies use cheap sweatshop labour{and often child labour} to make these clothes. Then, they mark up the prices.

Having said that-I don't care if you wear desinger clothes-just please don't say it's because of how their made. I wear some desinger clothing-mainly jeans because I have found one brand of jeans I like and I own about 10 pairs of them{no joke}.

P.S. if you guys want to read a great book about child labour and real life experiences check-Save The Children by Craig something or other. The's a teenager who started an internation organiztion to stop child labour-when he was 12 years old. he traveled to many different countries and saw first hand that kids working...it's really fast

Okay, I happen to like Roxy and Delia's, only because I like their styles, I like beach type clothing. I like the way their tops fit. I would wear any non brand name though. It is hard for me to shop for pants because of my figure, tall and big hips. So yeah brand names do fit better!! For that person that said brand names don't make a difference on how they fit but yeah they do!!! They really do!

Yes, i wear brand names, but I also wear non-brand names. I have a shirt from sears that I got like 2 years ago and people have asked me if its from abercrombie and fitch. I don't buy things b/c of the brand. I buy it b/c i like it. I own one thing from abercrombie & fitch - a pair of shorts that has abercrombie & fitch written small & in yellow on white so its hard to read. I got it b/c I liked it & it wasn't overpriced.

I always, always, always go to the sale/clearance section. I get a lot of nice stuff from there too. Two of the bags & wallets i use for school are from the clearance section in contempo. I wanted them for a while and the wallet was like $10 & the bag was like $22 so I was like there is no way i'm paying that much for them. I waited a few months and they went on clearance for like $5.00 for the wallet & $10.00 for the bag. I was going to get it but decided to get it next time i went. I ended up payin $2.00 for the bag and $1.00 for the wallet. I have got soo many compliments on them & when I tell people the prices, they are like "OMG! thats it? I gotta go shopping with you."

Also whats the big deal about wearing brand names? So many people are like "oh no, i never wear brand names, I hate them. Is like advertising for them for free blah blah blah" Not all brands names have their name all over it and in huge letters. Why do people make is seem to be so bad to wear brand names. If you like it & its a good price get it, even if it is a, dare I say it, a brand name.(Thats for all you people who are anti-brand name)Same thing with clothes from target. If u like it & is good quality get it. Its not a sin to wear route 66 or whatever they have at k-mart and stuff(meant for all those who are anti-non brand name). Get over the argument about brand names & non-brand names. Its pointless. When you're dead is it gonna matter if you wore american eagle or some clothes you made yourself? No, it isn't. Do you think people will say,"She didn't wear Old Navy, I'm not going to her funeral." Nah, they won't.

I'll never deny wearing brand names, but I'll also never deny wearing non-brand names. Judging people on their clothes and suggesting to them that they shouldn't wear brand clothes it bullshit. Same thing with impling that they should wear brand names.

For the below notice that i say SOME!
Some brand name clothes do fit some people better than other clothes (YES IT IS VERY POSSIBLE)

Some brand names do have better quality (THIS TOO IS POSSIBLE)

Not all brands names have their name all over it and in huge letters.YEAH, THIS IS TRUE TOO}
For the below above that i say SOME!

Do you really care what brands(or non-brand clothes for that matter) everyone else wears?
Like I said before, get over it. Its pointless.

(If you totally disagree or if you completely agree with me I don't really care. The only thing i have to say to that is that its absolutely great for you & only you. The above was only my opinion.)

i have had proplems about target and their stuff falling apart and stuff. I would rather buy a $30.00 pair of name brand jeans and they last about a year then have to buy a $5.00 pair of jeans from target and them only last a month or two. You can find some name brand things for that cheep and they'll last along time

Ok ya'll stop sounding so goddamn BITCHY! I've kept my mouth shut until now. NOW LISTEN. I am as name brand as you get [me and dANi * hehe]. I LIVE @ PacSun, and you can't get more namebrand than that. They sell dawL, roxy, A*F (even tho I have never ONCE bought an AF/AE shirt. NEVER), etc. I just recently (well about a month), splured @ ROSS (well my mom did for me) for about $150..I got 3 HUGE bag full of clothes that I SIMPLY ADORED. I mean they have the cutest clothes!!! BUT, I named these 2 shirts my "favorite" and wore them .. for 2 weeks. They ripped, tore, etc .. so I must say that brand name are a bit MORE durable, but I still <3 the cuteness of the lower end .. <sigh>

Oh jesus...spare the melodrama. I think the point of this post was to point out that you shouldn't judge people based on if they were brand name clothing or not like the stupid whores in my school.

I guess I can understand somewhat the attraction to brand name stuff. Brand names serve to differentiate people. If you walk into an expensive boutique carrying Kate Spade, of course you're going to get better treatment than if you walk in carrying a Nike backpack.

I wear brand name stuff but I also wear non-brand names equally. My family is pretty poor but I have a job so I can afford to buy somewhat expensive stuff every now and then. Logos (especially a giantic label on the chest) make me cringe. Instead of making me feel confident, I walk around with my arms crossed over my chest all day to hide the logo. It's all about being subtle.

what i want to know is why people have to make topics just to bash on people, when they dont even know the people. maybe people come on here to get brand name things cheap, and thats why the put them in the want ads. you are just stereotyping them frome ONE WANT AD. how accurate can that be? how do you know they ONLY wear brand name clothes??
i just cant stand topics like this. it is nobody's business what you do or do not wear. bashing on people for ONLY wearing brand names is just the same as bashing on them for NOT wearing brand names. hypocrytical much? look, im sorry for being rude, but i am seriously offended. you dont know me, or half of the other people on these boards, yet you feel you can lecture and ridicule them, for something you dont even know about. im not on here saying "oh my gosh, i cant believe she doesnt wear tommy or gap. what nerve." no, because personally, i dont care what anyone wears. i dont really care what i wear either. i will wear whatever i want, and yes, I DO WEAR SOME BRAND NAMES. but it is not all i wear. but you didnt know that, because you dont know me.
