What really IS a rave? A club where there are lots of bright lights, big pants, and make-out sessions along with drugs? [Note: I am not dissin' raves, because I AM SO intrigued by them] but what really is it?------------------

A rave is like a huge party. Some are legal and even may have police at them but alot or illegal. Theres dancing, drugs, alcohol, partyin....just whatever. IP: Logged |

it's a really really big party with music
(dance,house,trance...),dancing..glow sticks  well, yeah..drugs and drinking. i'm DYING to go to one but i'm too young 
my older brother and sister are like in a rave practically every night. i'm jealous.
my friend and i were supposed to sneak in to one..but we chickened out. lol.  ------------------

alrighty. sarah bitching time for a moment. blondie, no offense, but you have been fed the media's version of a rave. down with the fucking media. but that's ok. we'll set you straight. also, please dont define raves by the drug use and drinking. ravers aren't all about drugs. that isn't cool. besides, there's like, very little drinking. in fact, at 99% of the raves [at least here] they don't sell alcohol. only bottled water only at massives do they sell alcohol. oh yeah, massives = really big raves. think 6000, 7000 people. let's see. raves.. well, they're basically all night dance fiestas . the process of a rave [by sarah] you get a flyer. day of party, you call the info line and are given direction. you follow directions, you find rave  . at rave, you listen to lots of awesome djs spin. the time frame of this is usually from about 9, 10pm to about 6, 7, 8am. people there are often dressed in big pants, although raves are so fun, because people dress in *everything*. i've seen people in tigger suits.. pajamas.. feather boas.. everything. you'll also see lots of candy bracelets.. not actually candy, but we call 'em candy they're really the pony bead bracelets.. anyway, it's a creative outlet for dressing the atmosphere is dark, although there are usually strobe lights and fog machines and fun movie type things that play pretty designs and stuff. you'll find people dancing with glowsticks and other flashy items. they look pretty  yes, there is drug use. but again, don't define raves by the drug usage. you will see random people off to the sides [hopefully], making out or giving lots of massages. those people are most likely on ecstasy.. or are very into nookie oh and you're *never* too young to rave... well. wait. let me take that back. i think it's horrible that you see 12, 13 year old kids at parties, because it's like, do your parents allow you to stay out alll night? tisn't safe. but yeah. the young ravers usually start around 15 or so. *breath*. can we tell raving is my passion? if you have any more questions, just ask.. and i have pictures!! and i'll bet las vegas has a rave scene.. you just haveta know where to find it [i think that was the longest laundro post i've written] ------------------

Raves aren't exactly my thing, I'm definately more into punk shows. Being straight edge and all, seeing people on drugs makes me sad. But I know that there are straight edge ravers out there which is totally alright with me but the music just doesn't do anything for me. I do respect most ravers though, b/c it is a culture with quite a few similarities to the punk culture. As for the age thing- I've seen kids at raves that looked about 10 or 11. I thought it was pretty sad though b/c they were buying drugs. I always wonder what their family life must be like that they're out till the wee hours of the morning and no one cares or notices. But then again, that was in downtown Detroit which is a pretty crappy place anyways and I've hear that Ann Arbor raves rock. So I might just give them another chance and see if I can bear to look at people on e again. Oh yes, and ravers here don't dress up all colorful or anything at raves, they usually do durring the day. Oops,this was longer than it was supposed to be. ------------------

Raves aren't really my scene either... though, my friends are under the influence that they can get E from any of their "cool" gangster guy friends. So they always want to go to raves badly. If I went to one, I'd be the only one out of my friends to be straight edge. I'm just a bit bitter about this (and theres a lot of other issues to this. So if this doesn't make any sense, ignore me). I know that not all this is with drugs, and most of it is people just having a good time. But that's probably a nightlife that I'll never have, since my parents would never let me stay out until 8AM without chopping off my head first. And I'm sure Las Vegas has raves every now and then. 10 or 11? no way. if you go to a rave here and you're young like 12,13,14 you'll look really out of place. my sis's boyfriend was interviewed during a rave, and they showed him doing glow sticks.

oh lordy don't go to a detroit rave. not a good idea. my brother usually goes to chicago or to ann arbor for raves i do believe...but he did go to detroit a few times and i think those were bad experiences------------------

the detroit scene's very interesting. i've yet to go there... detroit's almost more screwed up than here in chicago. but detroit's one of the originating scenes of the rave scene in america, so ya haveta respect it somewhat.. and they just pulled off this amazing three day weekend festival so yeah....------------------

Most of my friends prefer Detroit raves and go to those instead of Ann Arbor which must mean that they're pretty awesome b/c Ann Arbor is only 15 minutes away and Detroit is an hour. So I guess they can't be that bad. I've had bad experiences at Detroit raves but from what I heard, that was just a bad rave to begin with. So I suppose if you pick and chose in Detroit, you'll find a cool rave. But then again, what do I know- I'm just a little punker. Ha.------------------

you get flyers either from previous raves... or from stores.. certain stores. like, if there are certain stores that you think ravers might go to, check there.. or you can find a lot of e-flyers online..and yes, there's parties in nj. in fact, the largest east coast party was just held in nj over memorial day weekend. whistle 3 ------------------

My cousins live in Vegas and there are tons of raves there I only went to two because the ones in vegas are heavy with the alki...drug use isn't so bad the lots of liquor yuck.

Destiny: Where are most of the raves around here? It'd be something interesting to do during the summer... I pick up flyers sometimes but they're usually 21+ or they're just big club/dance parties and not really raves.I've never been raving, but it seems okay. Some ravers I know drop E, others go sober, but everyone seems all right in the long run. I'm more of the punk show/clubbing person myself. A little off-topic - but is anyone going to see that movie Groove that just came out? ------------------

Ris~ you in Vegas? I'm not sure where to find them I don't live there I went with my cousin he lives there...I'll ask him though and get back to ya.

no need to wait until you're older...i see kids who are 12/13 at parties all the time! it's cool,as long as you don't get caught up in all the drugs. i started clubbing at 13,but it was only because my parents let me do whatever, and my older brother would go with me ------------------

Can someone tell me where in NJ I can find a rave? I go clubbing, but I haven't found a rave yet. Also, has anyone else heard rumors of people at raves sticking you with needles that contain the HIV virus? This worries me, so I'd like to find a reputable rave!!------------------

oh gawd... that needle rumor is just that: a rumor. it's been going around forever about people doing that in movie theatres & shit, putting them in the coin slots on payphones, blah blah blah, but it's not true. in other words, if definately classifiable as an urban legend.according to my bud, there's something going on in atlantic city on the 23rd/24th. however it's 17+... hey, if anyone wants a list of events (for just about anywhere), let me know. i've got connections. Actually that needle thing is true my friends and I were at a rave in San Fransisco and this guy came up to my friends cousin Lindy stuck her with a needle and gave her a card that said *Welcome to the world of HIV* and she went and got tested a few weeks later *It was hard to get her to go* and she now has hiv.

when someone "does" glowsticks, that means they're dancing with them.i got lots of complimenting for glowsticking at wonderland this weekend. twas quite nifty. ------------------

i went to my first rave the other night. it was an outdoors one so it was cold. i knew a ton of people including one who spun so it was fun. i'm only 14 but there isn't usually an age limit. everybody wears clothes that glow and stuff and carries glow sticks so when they dance it's like this blur of color and it's fun to watch. and everybody dances really weird. fun.IP: Logged |
