Happy Memorial's Day, everyone!

Do any of you know anyone who served in the war?

My dad was in the army, but wasn't drafted to the war. My grandfather was in WW2 and had to fight in Italy.

My granduncles served in World War II (on the European front...) Both of them saw active duty. One was killed after the war by a landmine (he's buried at Golden Gate National Cemetary near San Francisco) and the other was a POW for two years before being released when the war ended.

I've had other relatives who have served in the armed forces, but those are the most "notable" ones. One of the reasons I'm so big on history (esp American history) is because my family has a personal stake in it all - it's amazing to look at old photos and to hear stories and to realize that the stuff in your history book isn't limited to the text.

my grandpa was in wwii, his dad ( who looked very much like abe lincoln ) was in wwi & my dad was in the air force during vietnam...

this goes way, way back, but my...i forget how many great's...grandfather ( on my mom's side ) was a general for the north in the civil war. i find this funny, but his last name was feiten... pronounced like "fightin'". um, yeah.
