I'd just like to get everyone's opinions and experiences regarding AOL. I have AOL and I find it to be a total pain sometimes. During peak usage times, they always kick me off whenever things get a little slow so I gotta log on again and again.

Also, everyday around 7 PM and 11:30 PM, the Internet is sooo freakin' slow that all I see on the screen is a message that says "This page cannot be displayed." Is it just me or does this happen to everyone else too?

AOL isn't bad though, just frustrating at times. I love the mail features, like how you can click on the "WRITE" logo and you can write to someone immediately and that little mailbox thing that notifies you of any new emails.

I'm cutting the AOL soon (they'll cut me off after 5/27) though because the charges are getting too high for my teensy allowance.

I have AOL and I hate it. Between the hours of 7-11 it usually takes me at least 30 attempts to get online...if I even get on at all. Other times it just won't connect and freezes before it gets to step 7: checking password. I can't visit a lot of webpages, I get a "page cannot be displayed" error or the whole thing freezes up on me...And forget about submitting any type of form...

Also, my 5.0 crashes at least once a month forcing me to re-install and lose practically every document, etc..that I have saved. When I call and ask for another CD-Rom, I get it smashed in a hundred pieces (that's happened 3 times).

The tech support sucks....Usually a 20-60 minute wait trying to get online support in one of AOL's "chatrooms." And when I call the toll free number....if I don't get a porn message, I am forced to wait on the line for a half hour...

So no, I don't like it.....But it wasn't my choice to use this service...and I'm looking into other services...Any suggestions?

I had AOL when I first got the Internet (3-4 years ago.) That time, I thought it was okay. The features were interesting, but I never used them anyway. I always just minimized everything once I got online. I remember the connection speed was frustrating though.

Now I have a cable connection, which is 100x better than AOL's connection. My service is called @Home, but I think it's only available in certain parts of the United States and Canada (example: Bay Area, where I live.) I recommend it to anyone who can get the service in their area.

I thought I was the only one with all these problems. I can understand why the computer would slow down from 7 to 11. I like to go onlin late at night around 2 or 3 in the morning. And AOL is slow during those times too! The only good time for online browsing is in the morning but after 10 AM, it slows down AGAIN. What a freaking piece of crap. I hate AOL most of the time too. I just can't figure out why they have so many users willing to pay $22 a month for this.

Adrienne, maybe you oughta try Alta Vista or Net Zero. Those are the free ones and they don't kick you off.

Thanks for the info I have to do something, AOL is so frustrating and frankly, I don't have the patience for this anymore.....

Trying to get any tech assistance from AOL is like trying to squeeze blood from a rock...You just can't do it..

So no, you're not the only one who has had these problems...A lot of people do...
