Okay here's the deal, I want to start making my own zine but I have no clue where to being. I've only read one zine, which total confused me, lol. I need some tips on making zines and also if there are any KIND KIND KIND people out there that would be willing to send me some zines so I can get a better idea on the whole zine thing that would be great! So if you can send me some zines to have and check out or if ya have some zine making tips for me, please post away! Thanks!

Yeah zines are a lot of fun! I've always wanted to start a zine as well, but it's more fun working on zines with someone you know? Now I'm co-editor of this zine, and it's so much fun! Anyway, I think you should first decide on what kind of zine you want to make, and then decide on some "unique" ideas that other zines don't have. Are you going to be doing the whole zine yourself, or getting people to help and write articles? That would be the first step, deciding on the whole format, then you work your way up like getting subscribers, etc.

Hope that helped! If you want, email me and we can chat!

is a great place to get some zines from. Also, in the auctions under the book section...people always auction off huge goodie bags of zines, but i reccommend the link above because you know exactly what you're getting before you buy it.

the things you should keep in mind when making your zine is to be real, honest, and original. It's okay to get ideas from other zines and all, but make sure your zine is 100% YOU and reflects your efforts and the person you are. Readers will apprieciate it more....

check out http://www.zinebook.com/
there are TONS of links to zines, zine help sites, books about zines... literally hundreds of links to zine and zine publishing sites.
I would recommend getting th books "Make a Zine!" "The Zine Scene" and "The Zine Book". you can find info about these on amazon or at the above site... hope I helped a little :O)

pander zine distro is a good place to start. ericka, who runs it, has really good taste in zines. looking at other people's zines can be a big help in terms of figuring out what you want your zine to be like; when i started my zine awhile back i hadn't seen too many other zines so mine was pretty bad. so yeah, look at zines and figure out what you like reading and seeing. it also helps to not rely on other people for writing if you're doing a personal zine, because zines like that seem to die fast. (with other kinds of zines, say, musically or politically focused zines, it's different, and usually you do have to at least partly rely on contributions for those.) as for actually getting the zine published.. you should, before making it, make sure it is in a format that you know how to make copies of (e.g. you may not want to start out with a half-sized zine right away) because it is really frustrating to work so hard on it and then completely mess up the copying. so yeah, that's what i can think of off the top of my head, but go ahead and ask if there's anything specific you would like to know.
