Okay maybe I am missing something but to me this seems really like stupid. If your not gonna sell your item for under $5.00 why star the auction off at 1.00? I mean I realize it makes people want to bid more if it's started off lower but it seems pointless and a waste of time to set the reserve price at 5.00 and start the auction out at a $1.

Maybe some people enjoy wasting time. For instance, me. I'm selling Manic Panic hair dye. I started the bidding off at 75 cents with a reserve of $5. It's just a way to get people to bid.

If I started my bidding at $8, I highly doubt anyone would have bid, leaving me with something I don't want.

wa la.

Well if you like wasting time then reserve prices are for you. Either way it wastes time. At least if you start it off at $5 people know that there at least gonna for sure get it if they win. Otherwise it's a waste of an auction.

It's not a waste at all. People set reserve prices so that they don't have to sell an item for less than they want. Also, a lower price attracts more bidders.....it's a way to get people to look at your auctions....

Yeah it's a way to get people to look at your auctions but then when they bid and they don't win it's frusterating when they could have just known they weren't gonna get the item unless they paid $5 and not wasted there time!

When pweople set reserves,i just try to meet their reserve the first time i bid,im really pretty good at guessing,i just think about the itme and then think how much id pay for it,and then bid,and if how much id pay meets the reserve, then yay-if it dosent, then its ok,cause i wouldnt wanna pay anymore for it.
