The way I usually remember the difference between the two is that verbs are modified by ad(VERBS) and nouns are modified by adjectives. Also, most adverbs end in -ly. Hope that helps.

----------

Ooh, just thought about something else that may help. Ask yourself what you're describing. For example, if your sentence said:

Her eyesight worked (perfect, perfectly).

You're asking how her eyesight *worked*. Because worked is a verb, you want to use perfectly (an adverb).

On the other hand, if you had something like this:

Her (perfect, perfectly) eyesight was flawless.

You're asking about her eyesight. Because eyesight is a noun, you chose the adjective, perfect.

Does that make sense?

To tell between an adjective and an adverb, you look at the sentence,(lol duh) and your sentence is I can see perfectly without glasses. In that sentence, perfectly is modifying how well you can see. In a sentence like The dog is running quickly, quickly is modifying running which means that quickly is the adverb. An adverb is just like an adjective but it modifies a verb. In a sentence like There is a pretty flower in a field, pretty is an adjective because it is modifying flower. Hope this helps and good luck on your test!

adverbs describe verbs...

adjectives describe nouns...

usually, adverbs has -ly on the end.

like... i run quickly. she typed quietly.

got it?

adjectives modify nouns...

whereas adverbs modify verbs, as well as other adjectives.

ris & silvrtwist & anyone else taking APs this week -

good luck! Heh. I only have 2 APs to take this year: Calc (this Thurs) and Bio (next Wed).

May appears to be the month of testing: STAR (for those of you in Cali), APs, SATs (I and II), finals, etc.

Hey, fellow geeks! Best of luck on your APs as well...

Melissa - I took Spanish Language today, I have English Lit tomorrow, Calculus AB on Thursday and Physics C next week. Someone should have smacked me last year when I signed up for these classes and decided to take these exams.

Waldo - Calc as a junior, I'm still impressed My little brother just finished up his STAR testing the other day... but those are just your run of the mill standardized tests. Just wondering, but are you going to be taking the AP English Language exam? I thought that you take that during junior year (and I'm just assuming that you'd be in that class...)

well, good luck on AP exams to everyone from me, also...

i took my AP lit. one today (i'm in japan, so i guess it was 14 or more hours before you all in the states). i think i did pretty well (at least i hope so).

but man, the AP u.s. history test is another story. i took that last year, and only one person in our class passed. all we did in that class, though, is watch movies.

tomorrow is AP calculus for me, too. i'd better go and get a good night's sleep...

And another AP exam later...

Honestly? The English Lit AP today was *hard* essay-wise. The objective part was surprisingly easy, so I was feeling pretty cocky going into the essays. Open up the packet and read the essay questions, and wham - it hits you like a ton of bricks. All forty something of the kids I took the AP English Lit exam with today agreed that it was tough - I kind of scratched my way through the essays, writing about a page and a half for each one. I used Hamlet for question #3, by the way.

AP US History can be tough, I agree - I was one of three kids in my class who passed it last year, but that's only because I'm a total US History geek.

i thought that the objective test was rather easy, also, but the essays were harder than i expected. i used hamlet for the third essay, also. i took the ap calculus test today, and that was much harder than i expected. the practice tests that our teacher gave us were so much more basic, it seemed. maybe i was just imagining it... ah well, they're over, and i think i managed to get an alright score.

woo actually i thought the essays were a lot easier than i expected. the one about the sirens sucked. the second one was pretty good. and then for the third one i was going to use *all the king's men*, but instead i used *oedipus rex*. hehe half the people in my room used *hamlet*. oh well. down with that test.
