this year, my school got this new thing that in order to graduate, you have to do a big project that you start your junior year and then present your senior year. it can be basically anything, like make a travel journal of a trip you went on, coach a little kids sport team, whatever, you know. and all our teachers say it is mandatory and that they put it off as long as they could, but then i heard that it only goes into effect 2002 (when i graduate), and i was just wondering if anybody elses schools are doing this or know anything about it. because i cant find anything about it on the internet. i just want to know what happens, or if there is a way to ban it, like w/petitions and stuff. because i know that all the parents and students, and all of the teachers i have talked to think it is dumb.IP: Logged |

ohmigosh! i just had to do the same thing! and gurl, let me tell you that once you get it over with, youll feel sooo good and just relived. but, anyway, i did mines on cambodian teens vs. american teens. i got a c+, but im just glad i passed. whoo! i had to get all dressed up and everything and present my project to a board. my presentation lasted like 20 mins over the limit, but oh, well. it wasnt too bad overall. i think the hardest part of the whole thing was writting the essay. i had to re-do it twice! grrr... > hay, good luck on yours!!! ------------------ xoxo rithie [This message has been edited by rithie-ster (edited 04-26-2000).] IP: Logged |

We don't have a senior project at our school (although it sounds kind of neat, in a way) but one new graduation requirement is that you have to complete 100 hours of community service by your senior year - it used to just be 10 hours per religion course (or 60 hours) but now they're really pushing it. Not that it's a bad thing - sometimes people really need a push to realize how bad a problem is.------------------ what a girl wants, what a girl needs: cornices and moguls! IP: Logged |

we have Senior Project at our school too. you don't get a letter grade, it's either pass or fail, and you have to present it in front of 5 people. for mine i'm making a website showing the infomation i learned by researching the art of Capoeira.IP: Logged |

i'm graduating 8th grade, and our town makes a BIG deal out of it, because we dont have a highschool (only a private one, on the border of our town) so we are going to 6 flags. and we are going to the lake and having a dance and staying there all day.------------------ *christina* "you know its true love when he is the last thought you think when you go to bed, and hes the first thought u think when u wake up"

junglista - capoeira, cool... I've seen it performed at a multicultural festival before and it's so graceful and amazing. My friend took capoeira classes and she says that you ache afterwards from all of the physical movement (and she's a dancer...)------------------ what a girl wants, what a girl needs: cornices and moguls! i actually don't think this whole project thing is such a bad idea...to graduate here, you have to write a senior research paper. but you don't get to pick yr topic. the ap english classes had to write an analysis on a poem. raar. i'd rather do some creative project or community service. ------------------ wanna make me happy?

yeah, i was talking to some juniors about it today, (because they had to start this year) and it sounds like you can actually do ANYTHING you want really, and it only has to be a ten minute presentation in front of ten teachers. not too bad, but i think it is dumb that if you dont do it or if you do bad you dont get ur diploma.IP: Logged |

our school has that. except you work on it for 4 years, providing a committee a sample of your progress ever semester, and we present it the day of graduation. i learned to play the 4 stringed bass, because i already knew the guitar. one of my friends went sky diving. he researched it, found a place, etc. and just went last weekend.. hes going to provide the committee a tape of his voyage. its fun.. just have fun. -melissa------------------ i'm everything you wish you could be
