I have a few questions about them. I've never gotten one as a form of payment, but I will be soon because I don't really think its safe to send more then $8 or so in cash.

Anyway...the questions.

1. Are they made payable to me? Like checks are?
2. Is it just like cash? Can I go into the bank, hand them the MO and then walk out with the money?
3. Do you think this is a better form of payment.
4. Whats the diff between MO and cashiers checks?

Alright, thats it. Please reply.

1. yes
2. yes
3. Nothing is better than cash, but it's alot safer. MO's are much better than checks because they can't bounce.
4. ? I've never got one of those.

To get a M.O. just go down to a 7-11 or any kind of gas station/convenience store and say "I need to get a money order for $___.__". You can also get them at the Post Office or your bank, but sometimes the post office M.O.s can be a hassle for people to cash. Normally they cost $.50-$0.99.

Thanks for the imput guys.

I also just discovered that you can get MO's at grocery stores. Or at least at the Giant's around here. But I think Giant is just a Maryland based store

yeah, grocery stores usually sell 'em too. just be careful if you decide to get a m.o. & you need to send it outta the country. international ones cost a lot more.

You guys are lucky... you can only get MO at the PO and the Bank here (then again, I hate this town.) Anywhere else I know that you can only get MO in a post office based drug store. Anyway- http://www.usps.com has the rates on making money orders in different currencies ...

Oh, Jina. You should ask your bank. I live in Canada, and I sent a International USD Money order to a girl in NY, and she told me she was charged $10 just to get it in her bank (and I felt awful- she ended up losing $2.50 since my payment was just $7.50)

?!?! whoa. if it was in us dollars there's no reason i know of that she should have been charged to cash it or deposit it. i run a mailorder & deal with international mo's almost daily. i've never been charged or questioned when cashing them.
damn, that really sucks for her!

Yeah... you're telling me. It was in $10 USD. But I found it kindof hard to believe- wouldn't the bank have a leniancy towards this, since they were just trying to accept a $7.50 USD MO? I don't know. I told her that she should have sent it back to me, but she said she didn't get her bank statement until two weeks after she sent my package.
